Opening Times & Play Areas

The nursery is open 8am-6pm Monday to Friday and runs over two floors which host four different age groups.

The nursery also benefits from two outdoor play areas which are used all year round. One of these play areas features a stone track around its edge that the children can use to use the trikes we provide. There is also a small jungle gym here which the children really enjoy as well as a large chalkboard the children can use.

The second of these play areas features a soft rubber floor as well as some bespoke seats, a sandpit, some vegetables the children help to plant and maintain as well as many other things to enjoy.

Nursery Rooms

Ground Floor

Our ground floor is home to several important rooms. The first room is the front room, this hosts a range of activities such as: Home corner, dressing up, jigsaws, construction, story time, book corner singing and many more. The second room is the art room, this room is designed for messy activities such as: Water, sand, playdough, painting, gloop, basically anything messy you can think of, children love! The final room downstairs that the children will enter is the dining area where all the children sit down to have their meals, which are explained in later detail further down this page.

The main group that use the downstairs facilities are ages two to three. This group have a child to staff ratio of 4:1 with the normal amount of children present being twelve.The pre-school group also use the downstairs facilities and they have a child to staff ratio of 8:1 with the normal amount of children being sixteen. Within our pre-school group we offer children a variety of skills, early language and number work, phonic skills and many activities which build the childrens confidence. Our aim is to give the children a flying start both socially and academically when entering main stream school.

First Floor

The first floor is usually reserved for the smaller children. One of the rooms upstairs is known as the 'baby room' which holds six babies with a baby to staff ratio of 3:1. Our baby room has a variety of toys and equipment to meet all developmental needs.

Another of our upstairs rooms is the toddler room. This caters for nine toddlers with a child to staff ratio of 3:1. Our toddler room is equiped to encourage development for children aged between 1-2 years. The toddler group also has their own art room for messy activities and use of our outdoor areas.

Menu & Diet

Each meal is freshly prepared within the nursery kitchen on the ground floor by a qualified food handler.

Overview

Below is an overview of the typical food schedule.

  • For breakfast the children will normally have either toast or cereal.

  • Then, a fresh fruit snack is provided between breakfast and lunch

  • Lunch consists of a freshly prepared two course meal following our three week rolling menu

  • After lunch, around mid-afternoon, we then provide snack tea, which is typically comprised of food such as a selection of sandwiches, vegetable sticks, crackers, rice cakes, home-made pizza, fresh fruit, etc.

Staff

The nursery currently employs fourteen members of staff. All have an up to date DBS. Thirteen members of staff have a paediatric first aid qualification and seven of these staff also hold a first aid at work qualification.

The owner/manager Amanda Leader has a degree in early years teaching and has been teaching nursery/reception since 1991. Amanda taught at a primary school in Llanishen prior to opening the nursery in August 1995.

The staff at the nursery have all been carefully selected by Amanda with her own children in mind. We have a small team who work extremely well together. Three staff currently hold a level two in childcare and are working towards level 3. The remainder of staff are all NVQ level 3 qualified.
